Chiropractic Care for Seniors FAQs | Chiropractor for Seniors in Oxnard, CA
Hello. Hi everyone. I’m Dr. Tom Johnson from Total Health Center. Today we’re continuing our discussion on chiropractic care for senior citizens and geriatric populations. Today we’re going to be talking about the most frequently asked questions. Let’s get started.
Should Seniors Seek Chiropractic Care?
First, we got a question, should seniors go to chiropractors or chiropractic doctors? Yes. However, I would recommend only going to clinics that specialize in senior citizens in geriatric care. Not all Chiropractic Clinics are the same. Not all of them specialize in the same populations or injuries and provide the same services. So I would do your research and make sure that you have a Medicare certified clinic that accepts Medicare that is a specialist like we are at Kalani Total Health Center. So next, is chiropractic safe for seniors with arthritis or degenerative joint conditions? The answer is yes, hybrid cares, extremely safe. Harbor to care is the only treatment as well as physical therapy that really targets the actual cause of your pain, the joint, the bone, joint and soft tissue that’s become an arthritic and degenerative, we need to get you moving better at the joint level, the soft tissue level, and your whole body as well. So yes, it is safe. But again, I would caution you to focus on clinics such as ours that specialize in seeing and treating our senior citizens populations that will keep you safe and healthy. Again, not all clinics specialize and seen a senior citizens and population nests.
How do We Know what Treatments Seniors Need?
How do chiropractors know where to perform treatments? Very simply, it all starts with your comprehensive health history and physical examination. Through the examination through all of our orthopedic neurological chiropractic testing, we will discover the bones and joints that need treatments. These are typically the joints that are stiff, stuck out of alignment. There’s lots of scar tissue muscle spasm, they’re tender. There’s an abandoned fibers, fibrotic fibers around those joints. These are the joints that need to move better whether it’s these hips, neck, back, shoulders, elbows, hands, wrists and ankle joints, the move motion or movement to stay healthy and be healthy joints that lose their motion. They become arthritic, they degenerate, they become stiff, almost like rusty now. Next, what are seniors struggling with with balance disorders? What if they are? Well, that’s okay. Between chiropractic and physical therapy, we can help handle balance disorders, we can improve your balance. Again, we simply get the joints moving better. Again, we get the nervous system healthier and functioning better again, we can improve your balance coordination as well. Critical Care exercise and therapeutic exercises and balanced exercise can all help facilitate these balance disorders. Of course we need to follow up with primary care or specialists and understanding what there’s other factors causing your balance disorders to there’s many other causes that need to be treated by our medical physicians or our a primary care providers.
We Treat Seniors With Neuropathy
Now the question is what’s neuropathy? Well, neuropathy is generally generally pain, tingling, numbness, weakness in our extremities or hands or feet. That’s a typical neuropathy pattern. There’s many causes of neuropathy. That’s why it needs to start with a physical examination and any imaging laboratory studies to understand the true cause of your neuropathy. Typically, neuropathy is caused by many conditions that are all factored in and need to be treated through a multidisciplinary approach. That is what sets us apart. We are a multidisciplinary medical clinic chiropractic clinic that has many providers under one roof, that we can help treat these conditions from a variety of disciplines.
We Help Correct Seniors Posture
Next, what is good posture look like? Someone said, Well, really simple. Our posture needs to be one that follows the proper biomechanics of the spine. So typically, if I were to turn sideways, if someone was slouching forward, that would be an unhealthy posture, someone was staying nice and upright and erect. That’s a healthier posture. So you will learn more about posture in the clinic as we educate you on posture, ergonomics, work setting, sleeping, sitting, standing and moving as well. Next, is chiropractic care just for pain relief? No. Typically our first goals of care is to get patients out of pain. So that part is true. But ultimately, we’re interested in correcting the cause your pain, so pain doesn’t come back. We want to get these bones and joints healthy and moving better again. Typically, when we get patients moving better, they’ll feel better naturally and then they’ll perform better their daily life or daily activities.
