Hello, everyone, I’m Dr. Tom Johnson from Kalani Total Health Center. Today we’re continuing our discussion on discogenic, low back pain and discogenic neck pain. Today we’re discussing how we actually treat these spinal disorders in the clinic.
First and foremost, most clinics are not specialists in disc related injuries but we are at Kalani Health center. The process starts from the second you step into the clinic and aloha you’re going to feel from our support team, staff and doctors. We then will go into a private room we will discuss your detailed health history, we will discuss your previous injuries, your health, your overall wellness, your hobbies, your sports, your work, the mechanics, things that you do every day, we’ll discuss your goals. We need to start with that health history to properly understand you and what your goals are.
Second, we’ll transition into a comprehensive physical examination that’s specific for spontaneous orders such as discogenic which will provide a thorough examination that includes orthopedic testing, neurological testing, chiropractic, spinal testing, disc related tests, Luba patterns, muscle testing, again, all this is necessary to provide a really detailed diagnosis. Typically, there’s medical imaging involved, whether it’s X ray or MRI, sometimes we need to do neurological testing like the reproduction velocity. So additional testing sometimes is needed as well.
Next, from that information, we can properly diagnose that you do or do not have disc related neck or back injury. Okay, so where’s your pain coming from? What’s the pain generators the critical part of this exam, where’s the pain being generated from from that information, we can then prescribe you a detailed comprehensive treatment plan. We specialize in disc related spinal disorders at Kalani Health center starts from the typical treatment from our current project physical therapy team to our medical team. Depending on the stage of the treatment plan, typical acute care is focused more on pain, inflammation, swelling, that transit and transitions to more what we call corrective care, active care, that’s when we really go to work to correct that disc related injury to rehabilitate to strengthen to get you back to your sport to work to the activities that meet your goals.
Next, we customize a therapeutic and corrective care plan that focuses more on active care, specific therapeutic exercises and progressions to get again, you back to your activities in the quickest amount of time. Sometimes we use a deep laser, cold laser therapy to an inflammatory acute phases, our medical team can help with acute phases of care as well. The key point is we have an integrated approach to helping you get out of pain and to get you back to your life in the quickest and shorter span of time with the least expense.
