Put An End To Shoulder Pain | Chiropractor for Shoulder Pain in Oxnard, CA
Hello, Hi, I’m Dr. Sean Delaney with Kalani Total Health Center. Today we’re going to be talking about the shoulder. Did you know that the shoulder is one of the most movable joints, if not the most movable joint in your body? It is considered what is called a ball and socket joint. You have the ball, which is like the head of your humerus here and it fits into a little groove and it moves around. That’s why we call it a ball and socket.
Shoulder Pain is Common But it Does Not Have to Be Permanent
There are two of these types of joints in your body, your shoulder is one and the other one is your hip. But unlike the hip, the shoulder is not a true ball and socket, because there’s nothing really covering it, it’s more of a flat surface, which is allows it to move more. This is why your shoulder has more of a range of motion than your hip that’s the shoulder is primarily held on to your body by muscles, ligaments, and tendons. So therefore it has a greater chance for injury. Speaking of injuries, roughly 70% of the population is going to suffer a shoulder injury at some time in their life. So that’s a pretty high number, so we better take care of ourselves. The primary reason most of this stuff is happening in the shoulder or injuries happen here is because it’s related to those muscles and tendons and ligaments, because like I saud that’s the main thing holding it onto our body. So every time we use these things, the likelihood of injury increases. Also, you can get pain in your shoulder from other areas in your body, organs, they all can defer pain towards your shoulder. Like if you’re having a heart attack, you’ve heard one of the earlier signs is you’re getting shoulder arm pain on the left side is just a quick little, for instance. And also not only does the shoulder get referred pain or shoulder pain can refer pain to other areas in your body before it truly shows that you’re having pain in the shoulder. Interesting enough. All right. One of the other main causes, though, of a shoulder injury that’s non traumatic, is poor posture. Think about today’s world, everybody’s on the computer, they’re on their cell phone, they’re looking down. They’re laying on the couch and poor posture, everybody’s taking on this forward head position, the rounded forward shoulders, which further limits our range of motion. And by doing all those things, it’s creating an increase or rephrase that, increases the tension or stress on the shoulder joint the surrounding muscles and ticket muscles and ligaments causing an increased risk restrain.
