How We Care for Kids at Kalani Total Health Center | Pediatric Chiropractor in Oxnard, CA
Hello, everyone. I’m Dr. Tom Johnson from Kalani Total Health Center. Today we’re continuing our discussion on chiropractic care for school aged active kids, teenagers and student athletes as well as talking about and discussing the typical treatment programs to be expected for these age groups.
We Start with an Initial Consultation and Comprehensive Exam
The process begins with the patients and their parents typically coming in for a complete health history and injury history with one of our best doctors reviewing any important or pertinent medical history, any current medications and reviewing their goals both at school, academic, sports, and their personal life at home as well. We want to know specifically everything about this patient and what we can do to help them get to their best life now their best goals. Then we’ll perform a comprehensive physical examination that will include specific orthopedic testing, neurological testing, active and passive range of motion, posture assessments, looking for functional movement disorders, or impairments or deficits, we’ll look at sports specific testing, in terms of specific tests that are guided for a specific sport that the patient may be playing or wants to get into. We’ll look at performance enhancements, what we can do to get the performance level to the next level for our patients as well.
Next We Develop a Specific Chiropractic Treatment Plan
Our doctors will then develop a specific treatment plan for that patient that will combine the results of the examinations and the health histories, as well as the patient’s goals and the parents goals as well. We combined those elements together to derive the best doctor’s best recommendations for that patient. Our doctors will then sit down and review in detail this treatment plan with the parents and the patient together so they can play understand the diagnosis, what’s causing their pain, and the treatment program that we’ve developed for them. Again, the goal is to get the best results in the shortest amount of time. Thereafter, our doctors performed the patient’s first treatment providing the first adjustment. This will be focused on restoring the normal range of motion in the spine and extremities. restoring normal posture will then prescribe certain therapeutic corrective care exercises for that patient in the clinic, as well as home instructions to continue to exercise the critical care exercises at home.
Specific Chiropractic Adjustments and Posture Recommendations
This will also include posture recommendations instructions how to maintain healthy postures at home and school and throughout their day will also give sports specific information how the athlete can perform better at a higher level for that sport, and how our treatment and programs and recommendations can help influence that performance as well. Then our front desk staff will help you customize your treatment schedule we understand that student athletes and students have are very busy. We will make this work for you. We will customize the times that you’re available to come into the clinic for treatments. We want to make sure this works perfect for everyone. Our doctors then will typically call the patient after the first treatment at home to check up on them answer any additional questions that the patient that parents might have as well. Again, we want to be involved with your care. We want to put the student athlete right in the center of the care plan.
